Gaited Horse Entry Information. www.seashows.org
1) Grooming & Conditioning Halter Class
*All Breeds, Show Halter or Bridle is acceptable. Gaiting in hand may be required.
5) Open Color
*SEA Rule #13. Horses must be recognized by a color breed registry (spotted, palomino, buckskin, etc.). Gaiting in hand may be required.
6) Open Non Stock Halter
*All non-stock breed types, Show Halter or Bridle is acceptable. Gaiting in hand may be required.
Grand & Reserve Halter
*All Breeds that win 1st & 2nd placings in all halter classes qualify for this class.
8) Gaited Showmanship (Gaiting in hand is not required - walk pattern only)
~Showmanship classes are designed to furnish exhibitors an opportunity to demonstrate his ability to fit and show a halter horse. Judging shall be based on exhibitor's ability, and no consideration shall be given to the horse except for grooming and physical condition.
*Attire may be English or Western, but not a combination of both.
*Horse is to be exhibited in a halter (nylon or leather) and lead rope with or without a chain, no bridles.
*Exhibitor should be able to execute a pattern which may include pivoting horse to the right, halt, back horse in a straight line, lead horse off in a straight line to a marker, stop at a marker and set the horse up square. The Quarter System is used for presenting the horse for judging individually and while in the line up.
10) Youth Showmanship
~Gaiting in hand will be required.
11) Senior Showmanship
~Gaiting in hand will be required.
12) Open Showmanship
~Gaiting in hand will be required.
13) Leadline
~SEA Rule #9.
14) Walk
~SEA Rule #9.
18) Gaited Youth Pleasure - Eng or West tack and attire - 1 or 2 hands acceptable.
Open to all Gaited Breeds. Gait calls for Gaited Pleasure classes;
*Enter at a Trail Walk - lose reins slow, relaxed walk.
*Show Walk - collected 4 beat “peppy” gait, not resistant.
*Pleasure Gait - should see a definite increase in speed or change in gait from Show Walk to Pleasure Gait.
*Trail Walk - smooth and quick transition from pleasure gait to relaxed slow walk on a loose rein
*Reverse and continue at the Trail Walk.
*Show Walk.
*Pleasure Gait.
*Trail Walk.
*Line up for inspection. Exhibitors will be asked to back at the line up.
-Class will be judged on consistency of gaits, smoothness of transitions and overall turnout of horse and rider. The judge will place the class with the horses they would most want to ride or represent themselves.
22) Gaited Youth Horsemanship - Eng or Western Tack & Attire, 1 or 2 Hands Acceptable.
Open to all Gaited Breeds. Gait calls;
*Enter at a Trail Walk - loose reins slow, relaxed walk
*Show Walk - collected 4 beat “peppy” gait - not resistant.
*Pleasure Gait - should see a definite increase in speed or change in gait from Show Walk to Pleasure Gait.
*Halt - stand quietly on relaxed rein.
*Back on the rail.
*Show Walk.
*Reverse At The Show Walk, continuing with forward collected motion.
*Continue at the Show Walk.
*Pleasure Gait.
*Trail Walk.
*Line Up.
-Class will be judged on rider's equitation, control of horse, ease of transitions, consistency of gait and turnout of horse and rider.
24) Gaited Green Horse - Eng or West tack and attire - 1 or 2 hands acceptable.
Open to all Gaited Breeds. Same Gait calls as class #18. SEA Rule #11, Green horses cannot be past their 1st or 2nd year of showing.
26) Gaited Pleasure Mares
Gait calls same as class #18.
28) Gaited Pleasure Stallions & Geldings
Gait calls same as class #18.
30) Gaited Open Pleasure
Gait calls same as class #18.
32) Gaited Beginner Horsemanship/Equitation - Eng or Western Tack & Attire, 1 or 2 Hands Acceptable.
Open to all Gaited Breeds. SEA Rule #14. Beginner riders are defined as exhibitors in their 1st or 2nd year of showing in that seat. Same gait calls as class #22.
36) Gaited Open Horsemanship - English or Western Tack & Attire - 1 or 2 Hands Acceptable
Pattern class, one exhibitor at a time. Class will be judged on rider's equitation, control of horse and precise transitions at specified points.
38) Gaited Jackpot Pleasure
Gait calls same as class #18.
99a) Amature Adult Gaited Pleasure - English or Western Attire - 1 or 2 Hands Acceptable
Gait calls same as class #18.
100a) Gaited Beginner Rider Pleasure - English or Western Attire - 1 or 2 Hands Acceptable

54) Walk Trot/Gait Hunter Hack 18" crossrails. SEA Rule #22. Gaited horses may exhibit in English or Western Tack, but exhibitor must wear a ASTM approved helmet.
55) Youth Hunter Hack - Will Canter
SEA Rule #22. Gaited horses may exhibit in English or Western Tack, but exhibitor must weat a ASTM approved helmet.
56) Adult Hunter Hack - Will Canter
SEA Rule #22. Gaited horses may exhibit in English or Western Tack, but exhibitor must wear an ASTM approved helmet.
57) Open Hunter Hack - Will Canter
SEA Rule #22. Gaited horses may exhibit in English or Western Tack, but exhibitors must wear an ASTM approved helmet.
*Exhibitor age groups are: Youth 18 & Under, Adult 19 & Older as of October 1st.
All classes qualify for daily Gaited High Point, except Grand & Reserve Halter Class, Jackpot Gaited Pleasure. Class #6 and #8 are required to be eligible for daily High Point

The SEA Schooling show Gaited Division uses FOSH rules as guidelines.
A FOSH Sanctioned show is one that agrees to follow the IJA rules as the standard for judging.
216 Prohibited Substances
• Any foreign substance found on the leg of any pleasure horse from the knee to the coronary band is prohibited. This includes dyes, French chalk, lubricants, or medications.
• The use of plastic wrap is prohibited on all gaited horses. Although an injury at a show may require that the limb of a horse be wrapped in plastic, a veterinarian’s certificate of need will be required for the horse to remain on the show ground. Once the limb has been so wrapped the horse is ineligible for any further competition at the show.
• Tails may not be “gingered” or the rectum otherwise interfered with in order to increase the appearance of high tail set.
• Any form of medication, that could alter the deportment of the horse or enhance performance is prohibited.
217 Prohibited Appliances
*Action devices (including shackles or any similar device), stacked shoes, and bands on shoes are prohibited. Anything larger than the 1-inch shoe is prohibited. Any device that is not primarily protective and may be considered an artificial training device is prohibited.
218 Prohibited Conduct
*Unsportsmanlike or intimidating language or conduct is prohibited. Conduct at any time that in any manner appears directed at influencing judging or the outcome of any competition, other than pursuant to FOSH rules and procedures and the provision of training materials and information approved by the FOSH Board of Directors for such purposes, is prohibited.
